Insurance in New Hampshire is big business, and the company’s bottom-line matters most. Getting you to give up on your accident claim is often the goal.

Insurance companies may pull out all the stops to get you to settle for far less than you deserve or to avoid paying you at all. Do not fall victim to their tactics, which may include these strategies.

Recorded statements may trip you up

When an insurance adjuster calls to question you, he or she may sound concerned. You may feel like the adjuster is trustworthy and advocating for you. However, this is not always the case. The National Law Review highlights some of the issues that occur when insurance companies do not play nice with insureds. For instance, in a recorded statement the adjuster may attempt to get you to make guesses when you cannot recall specifics. They record these answers and then when you contradict yourself later, they may introduce the recording to discredit you.

Finding another source of blame

Insurance companies like to point fingers. They want to find someone or something else to blame for the accident. These tactics may include looking at your actions leading up to and during the crash. For example, they may ask how far into a lane you were in before an accident, how long you were there or what direction the sun was facing. While these questions seem valid, they intend to make you look wrong and avoid paying for your injuries and damages.

Insurance companies employ other tactics before making a final determination on liability. Educate yourself before having an in-depth conversation with an adjuster, and perhaps refrain from answering questions all together at first.
